Environment: freshwater

Origin: Central America: Chiapas in Mexico and Huehuetenango, El Quiche and Alta Veracruz in Guatemala where they are found in fast flowing rivers.

Temperament: Peaceful

Company: Xiphophorus alvarezi (Upland Swordtail) can be kept in calm community aquarium.

Water parameters: Temperature 25-28°C / 77-82°F; pH 7.2 – 8.1

Aquarium setup: Xiphophorus alvarezi (Upland Swordtail) Should be kept in densely planted aquarium with free areas to swim on. They should be kept in schools which should contain more females them males.

Feeding: Xiphophorus alvarezi (Upland Swordtail) will accept most foods although they prefer live food.

Breeding: Xiphophorus alvarezi (Upland Swordtail) is a livebearer that is easily breed in aquariums. The female give birth to her young in dense vegetation. Isolate pregnant females to increase breeding productivity.
