Origin: Central America: Rio Panuco basin in Hidalgo, Mexico.

Company: They can be kept in community aquariums with other small calm species..

Aquarium setup: Xiphophorus malinche (Highland Swordtail) Should be kept in aquarium that are densely planted among the sides and back and has open area to swim on in the front. Floating plants are beneficial. Keep more females the males.

Feeding: This swordtail species will accept most food sources.

Breeding: Xiphophorus malinche (Highland Swordtail) are livebearers. The female give birth to the fry among dense vegetation. The pregnant female can be isolated for better breeding results. One fertilization can result in several batches of fry.
