Company: The slender pygmy swordtail should only be kept with other small species.

Aquarium setup: Xiphophorus pygmaeus (Slender Pygmy Swordtail) is best kept in an aquarium that is densely planted among the sides and in the back while the front of the aquarium is left open for the fishes to swim on. Decorate the bottom as you se fit. Always keep more females than males in an aquarium since the males can be very persistent in their courtship of the females.

Feeding: Xiphophorus pygmaeus (Slender Pygmy Swordtail) will accept most food sources.

Breeding: Xiphophorus pygmaeus (Slender Pygmy Swordtail) are livebearers. The females give birth to live young among plants. The fry immediately hides and start searching for food. The females can be isolated before the give birth for more productive bredding.
