This project has two purposes:

1: To help Dr Marc van Roosmalen, an renowned internationally biologist who has discovered a number of new mammal species in the Amazon forest to get back to his work. More info about his situation and why he needs our help can be found in this interview with Marc van Roosmalen as well as here and here.

2: Get a monkey species named after the blogosphere. Marc van Roosmalen has promised to name the monkey species in the picture Lagothrix blogosphera, the blog monkey, if we can raise the money he needs to get back to the work he does so well, the work he loves. You can follow how the collection progresses on the status bar below.

The monkey in the picture is a baby of a new black species of woolly monkey. The monkey is found in a part of the Rio Aripuanã region and is just one of many species in that location waiting to be discovered or recognized by science, so it is easy to see why we need to get Marc van Roosmalen back out there discovering and describing new species.

We know that we are trying to raise a lot of money but we think, and hopefully you do to, that this is a great way to show the importance of blogs and to get a lasting evidence of this – a monkey species named after the blogosphere. Lagothrix blogosphera , the blog monkey, will be a living proof of what blogs and we bloggers can do together and I have no doubt that if enough of you really want to, and help spread the word, we will be able to collect the amount needed well before the deadline. After all, if we can get 31,000 people to donate just one dollar or 3,100 to donate $10 we will have reached our goal.

Please support the blog monkey by mentioning this project in your blog, adding it to your blogroll, and – if you can – by donating to it today!

The more people that link to this page the bigger the chance of the blog monkey to become a reality. You can find codes and badges further down.

You can help the blog monkey become a reality in two ways.

Donate

1. You can donate money by clicking on the donate button to the right. We greatly appreciate any and all contributions, large and small. Even a single dollar will help us move closer to our goal. Donating does not require a PayPal account.

Help spread the word!

2. Help spread the world about the blog monkey project. You can do this by telling your friends or by mentioning this fundraising on your blog or website. Below you will find a number of badges and buttons which you can add to your blog to help spread the word.
