Aquarium setup: Xiphophorus cortezi (Cortes Swordtail) should be kept in a partly densely planted aquarium with open areas where the fishes can swim. Always keep more females than males. A 2 to1 ratio or higher is usually to be recommended.
Feeding: Xiphophorus cortezi (Cortes Swordtail) accepts most food sources but prefers live and frozen food.
Breeding: Xiphophorus cortezi (Cortes Swordtail) is a livebearer. The female give birth to live young among plants. The female can give birth to several batches as the result of one fertilization. Isolate the female before she give birth to increase the survival rate of the fry. Remove her from the isolation aquarium once the fry has been born.
