Company: Although it is a predator, it will not attack fish too big to be seen as prey, so dwarf cichlids, larger bodied tetras, some barbs, plecos, and cories all make good companions.

Feeding: In the wild this fish is a predator but it will happily take frozen or dry foods. Bloodworms are readily accepted.
Breeding: Reportedly easy to breed, they prefer a ph of 6.5 when breeding, best bred in a trio of 1 male and 2 females, Aplocheilus werneri will spawn for two weeks if conditioned, and will lay anywhere from 10 to 30 eggs each day.
