I once had a pinkish purply hue to my water in one of my tanks. It was the only time I saw something like that. I think it was dying algae or bacteria. Did you notice a bloom and now it's better?

You could run a couple airstones or bars off that pump depending on how deep the tank is. The deeper the tank, the more air power you'll need.

Or consider a bubble wall curtain along the back? ...
