Thought I'd share with you Arowana junkies. This guy is in a display tank at my LFS. He is huge. Easily 2 feet. Apparently he has been known to bite when people put their hands in to do tank maint, and draw blood. He's an Asian Fancy, apparently.

He's lovely, isn't he? It would be nice if they filled the tank with water, tho.

Looks like an asian red, or maybe super red? Crispy will be on his way to educate us shortly thumbs2:

definitely a red. there are many 'gimicky' names like super red, diablo red, double red, but they are all "red asian aros" (scleropages formosus). awesome fish indeed! you would think an endangered species worth a few thousand dollars would have a bit more tank space? or is it just the pic? :11:

...I would seriously contemplate breaking into the store and stealing the aro if that was my shop. :hmm3grin2orange:

Beautiful fish! I dream of one day owning a Red!

Hobbs...With Aros, it's not always a good idea to have the tank full to the top. For several reasons.

The tank is bigger than that, it's just the picture. But IMO it's still not big enough for him. He watches you while you're browsing -- creepy.

Sorry guys, that's the only picture! I nicked it off the LFS's website. I don't think they'd like me taking pictures myself...

is there a pricetag on that aro?

Nah, he's not for sale -- they get heaps of offers though. He's one of the only of his kind in New Zealand.
