Puffin's fins are all frayed and chunks look like they're missing?! I keep my water clean....I do a 50% on Sundays and a 25% on Wednesday. I test my water every other day as well. I can't believe that it would be finrot since I read that only happens when there are poor water conditions. I just noticed it today when I was feeding him. I did a 50% water change and added some melafix in there to keep from infection or to get rid of the infection, whatever it is. I feel so bad for him! :( I wonder if it hurts?

Here are a few crappy pics if it helps any....Sorry my current camera isn't good at all. some of the ends look like a see through color, like they are trying to grow back...but it all seems like it happened over night. how can that be?

It looks to me from those pictures that he has just ripped his tail on something in the tank, their tail is very delicate.

The see through bits are the membrane between the tail which will be the part which has ripped.

If a Betta is properly looked after their fins heal very quickly.

should there be tail pieces in the tank somewhere? Poor thing, I dont know what he could've caught his tail on.

my guess would be the sharp looking plant in the background. my betta would flare off plants every now and then. he may have tried to do it on the plant and ripped his fins.

Ya know that was the only plant that I wondered about. I didnt see any pieces of tail in there, but I think i'll just go ahead and replace that plant with a rounded one. Pretty pokey plant, thought it would be safe in the corner surrounded by the coconut, maybe not. Oh well..fish safety is more important than a plant. lol

I wondered with my previous Betta, if he lost some becuase he shedded/moulted it because he was swimming so much, the excess slowed him down...

it is possible that he took a bite out of his own tail. That has happend before to mine. Im not sure why..mabey that flash of color behind him bought out his agressive side..:ssuprised: oops!
