How big can these get? I have been reading all day and what I have read is they can get from 4inches to 12inches.

What is the real maximum size of these guys. I would like to add them to my tank at some point after it's done cycling provided I can house them for life. I have also read they really need some thing like a 4' long tank because they are active. Now if they only get 4-6" do they really need 4' of tank? Also what is the smallest tank they can be in comfortably?

The common spotted pictus grows to around 5", they need to be in groups of 5+ so a 4ft tank is the bare minimum. A 55G or similar would barely provide adequate swimming space for them.

There are different species of "pictus" which can grow much larger Pimelodus blochii for example can grow into a rather impressive 12" fish.

Ahh well scratch that idea then. Thanks for the input. Maybe the next tank I have I can get some.
