I want to try some clown loaches for the 29g, so i went to the store to see if they had any.

I actually couldnt believe it, 25 dollars CDN each. Is that a normal price? considering the loaches like a school of 4 or more, thats gonna set me back 100$

......ooops...

Looks like you guys are all getting shafted on FW prices. My SW prices here are terrible though. $10 a lb for LR is ridiculous

Doesnt seem to be an outrageous price for that size.
Seems the 1"ers go for about $10.
Clown loaches are said to be difficult to grow large in aquariums and thats probably why the larger ones go for over $1000.
I have 1 of 3 that has grown to be about 3-4" and my LFS owner says its worth about $50
He also mentioned one large one sold for $10,000 on e-bay.
In researching breeding of the clown loach its belived only the real large ones have a shot at breeding in captivity. Perhaps thats a reason for thier value but I'm just guessin.

I have only ever seen the larger ones priced that high....like 5-6". The littler ones are much harder to keep as they are prone to internal parasites and once they make it that size you can figure they are free of parasites or they would have died.

Drummachine.....I believe $10/lb for live rock is pretty average around here to, although I usually see places offering discounts for larger purchases, so that may not be an unusually high price. Of course, without a saltwater tank, I don't browse around for the best prices on it.

MAN, better let the loaches grow at the store before i buy then.

LR here is stable priced. Store bought is 8$/lb, and there are ALWAYS ad's for people ripping down salt tanks with fully stocked LR for 4-5$/lb.
