I seen some red Tiger Barbs today at the LFS, thought they looked pretty cool but wanted to check to see if they were dyed first before purchasing.
Anyone ever come across any of these? Or know if they are dyed or if they truly are regular tiger barbs just red? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think they are dyed.

Ive heard of green, albino, blushing and normal tiger barbs but never heard of red tiger barbs. Barbs are usually not subjected to dying though.

I believe sometimes the tiger barbs can get a little red, mine has it when I feed black worms to him.

I too saw some red barbs at my lfs the other day and was suspicious if they were dyed or not. The only three barbs I knew are tiger barbs, green barbs, and albino barbs.

The red barbs look VERY red and very beautiful, though if they're doctored I'd stay away from them.

Are you guys talking about cherry barbs? They aren't the same as tiger barbs though.

No not cherry barbs. The ones I saw were like a red version of the green barbs. Very deep shiny red. Can't locate any pics online.

Yes they were.

Sounds like black tiger barbs, some people sell them as green, but they are not green. I think this morph comes from breeding green tigers a lot, but people have started breeding and selling black morphs

If that sounds like them, nope they arent died

The red Barbs you are talking about are not tigers, they are black ruby barbs or Puntius nigrofasciatus.
They are very similar but they have only three stripes and not four and they don't school in the aquarium with the tigers
