Hi all im new to the forums but not fish...Allready have a 55gallon with 5inch Jd and 8inch catfish. And just setup a 65gallon and i really want a school of tiger barbs...But im wondering what else i can put in it with them? Redtail or rainbow shark, cories, clown loach, silver dollars can i have any of these? Or what do you reccomend to go with barbs I just want to have a beautiful community tank...Im used to African and Ca cichlids new, to non agressive fish.

Thanks Tom,

I just had to go through the whole "what goes with tigerbarbs" thing again as well.
Honestly, it seems you did your research because the short list you provided are about exactly what I was going to suggest giving a try.
Other tiger barbs,
red tailed sharks,
corycats,
loaches,
some other bottom feeders,
and anything big with some attitude like silver dollars

though i dont think a 65 is quite enough for a school, i could be wrong though. Someone who has kept them will chime in.

I also have a feeling there a much more mostly peaceful tetras that will get along with them fine, if the schools are big enough.

Right now all my Tbs are housed with danios, and dispite them chasing them around all day for the first few days (cant really catch them, even though they are not a great batch) now they are all living in relative harmony, because the danios have some speed + attitude. Those are the two characteristics you want to see if any tank mates you will try out, that and NO flowing fins of course. If the fish are slow, longfinned, lumbering, or skittish at all the Tbs arent going to leave them alone most likely.

The ph, should be stable. In 95% of cases its not worth messing with the ph and a stable ph is usually highly favored over a ph that is in the "optimal range" but fluctuates some.

Thanks (Wild Turkey).... And yeah I did a little research about them. Today i plan on purchasing atleast 8tbs Red tail or rainbow shark. You guys think a tri of clown loaches would do good with a red tail/rainbow shark? I know the redtail sharks are more agressive than rainbow sharks. And my moms bringing me a ph kit so ima see what it is.

The kits that are most important are ammonia nitrite and nitrate, if you dont have those already, nab them first.

What are the dimensions of the 65? It may not be big enough for clown loaches which can actually get up near 1.5 feet eventually. If all the sides are bigger than that id say its okay, otherwise probably not. Keep in mind you will have to deal with the bio load of whatever goes in as well.
