I have an 180l tank(47.5ish gal). The current hood is useless after many light repairs. I would like to replace the light with something like a 36 inch Nova Extreme HO T5. My tank being euro measures 39 1/4 long. It looks like some of these light systems have adjustable mounts. Am I correct?
Also do these lights need to be mounted over glass? If it was mounted flush I have about 3in to the surface of the water.

thanks in advance

yep, most of those lights have moving legs that can fit tanks shorter than the light. they can be mounted without a glass top, just make sure theres a cover over the bulbs

Longer than the light as well?

I need something to prevent my fish from escaping. Glass panels maybe.

the only fixtures that i know of that accommodate tanks larger than them are the hagen GLO lights. they have metal extending legs. the 24" model can extend to 36", the 36" model can extend to 48", and the 48" model can extend to 72". you could also try hanging other lights though, some T5 fixtures include a hanging kit

for glass panels, just go to a glass shop. getting 1 or 2 pieces of thin glass cut as a hood costs only $10-$25
