View Full Version : Shrimp with livebearer fry?

I'm getting really tempted to set up a tank to raise livebearer fry, especially since I just got a Wrestling Halfbeak and the store promised to get more for me. I also have platies and mollies which are currently very good at eating their own babies.

If I do set up a fry tank, could I have shrimp in it? I'm thinking ghost shrimp or cherries if I can get some. Would they eat the fry much? I know the halfbeak fry are supposed to stay up by the surface like the parents. Either way, I'd have a lot of hornwort and java moss in the tank which would make for happy fry and/or happy shrimp. How many shrimp would be happy in a 5 or 10 gallon tank?

Also, is there a micronutrient fertilizer that doesn't use Copper? I'm currently using Seachem Flourish. I've heard the copper in it can hurt shrimp.

I have some time to think as I've read that shrimp need a stable, mature tank and I haven't even dug the tank out of storage yet. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
