Surely William doesn't have the time to look for all of the members who donated, but if he could somehow get all doners to sign up for the donation award it could work out okay. But what would happen if a member with 1,000,000+ coins decided to donate to 1,000 members or so, all in the same week?

I'm pretty sure he means when people Donate money to the site. :hmm3grin2orange:

This was discussed and the decision was not to have one.
Have an award for donating would put pressure on people to do so

I don't think people need to be recognized for donating. You all know who you are. The driving force behind the donation is to improve the website...not to be recognized for the donation. JMO

This was discussed back before the Donate button was made available. It was decided against because of the "class" system that it can lead to. I've seen on too many sites where there is recognition for donating the members who have donated get the preferential treatment. It gets to the point that if you do not donate monetarily then you are not looked on as favorably. Not everyone can afford to contribute to the site financially but they can contribute in far greater ways. This site is all about the exchange of knowledge and the educating of fish keepers, and the way to promote that is to reward those that educate and those that encourage the education. William stated a while ago that any donations received would be used for the implementation of new features and not for general site upkeep. The new features that become available for use should be gratitude enough for those that help make them possible.

i would say no, people could be dishonest and person x could donate 50,000 to person y, then person y could donate them back, just for a award

crap, i thought this was for points donating, not money. ignore my last post

anyways, ILMGB pretty summed it up, people who have signs saying they donated get preferential treatment, which isnt right. people who read on aquariums alot and are willing to help people should be recognized (and they are on this site), but being recognized for donating isnt right

I dont think people would get preferential treatment, I think we're all above that....but I agree, I don't think it would be in good taste to have a donation award. Although like Algenco said, its already been discussed, I believe before the donation option was available.

Yeah, that would be a good idea if you to donate a certain amount of points to get the award.
