View Full Version : Male/Female icons

I know I've seen it mentioned a couple times but not sure if it's been made as an "official suggestion". I think it would be really helpful to have an icon that shows the poster is male/female somewhere up near the username. Is this something that can be easily done?

Agree, i always feel like a jackass not knowing whether to call a member him/her.

I don't think either of you should have to worry about one of us wondering what gender you are.

Well, at first with name and the avatar, I though you could have been an unemployed, pot-bellied, single, slob, unkempt guy that only wears some dirty wife beaters and stained boxers.......but then you don't talk like one of them.

Or you could be like me and have your gender subliminally embedded into your screen name. LOL

I think it's a good idea.

we think it's a good idea but i don't think it should be manditory anonimity is one reason the internet is such a powerful tool and also what about joint account holders such as me and kittie? we usualy say who is speeking at the end of our post any way i think it's a great option mabe make it something you can buy at the shop? or what ever

I do not believe it was mandatory to pick your sex when you register. You can choose, unknown and that you did not wish to answer.

You can chose if you want to display your gender. And thats absolutely ok. If someone wants to be undisclosed ok with me. He/she, I guess, knows why.

I think someone mentioned having a male/female and a fish icon (and maybe we need a snail icon for some other gender categories, LOL?)... But, seriously, the fish could be the unknown. I agree... if you want to stay gender ambiguous you should be able to.

I didn't even remember picking gender when I signed up... but simply displaying that choice would be useful.

They need a nut icon for this one... LOL

Yea when you register it gives the option of "fish" i took that one but its not displayed anywhere.

I think there are enough options for people to indicate "what" they are. Most profiles leave it empty, perhaps a good thing these days?

But...............I had a friend online several years back. Bernie was pretty cool and we were going on a hunting trip with a group from the net. Since we got along so good I asked Bernie if he had anyone he would be bunking with. You know, thinking sharing the room with the guy would be cool.

Bernie says SHE would be rooming with her boyfriend. DOH!

I don't see the point. Why does it matter what gender people are?

MandyL

So when we post we know to say "him" or "her"...

yep, mandy nailed the answer. hobbs got called a guy so many times that she had to put her username as lady hobbs. lots of people actually thought i was a girl for a while. lol

I think this is a good idea, although I also think there should only be a male and female option. Any others like a fish, people would pick for a laugh which then doesn't help the situation of working out if they're a guy/gal.

05-12-2008, 02:58 PM
I came across a forum this morning that had the little symbols next to the avator. The guys symbol was light blue and the girls was a light pink. Looked good.

Probably should be a little icon for those who don't want to post gender...a little green fish???:hmm3grin2orange:

When they pic the optiion they don't want to say they're gender, In brackets next to it you should write something like (please dont be offended if you get called the opposite sex) i dunno
