Well I have 3 cherry barbs, 1 male and 2 females, along with a female guppy in a 10g tank. The possible problem lies with my 2 females barbs. Recently they have been hiding most of the time. They come out of hiding to eat. They are most likely hiding from the male since he chases them both around when he sees them and its not eating time. What should I do to solve this problem? Thank you.

do you have plants in your tank? Are the fishes getting good cover?

I think another female or two would help spread out the male's aggression more, making them all more comfortable. Well planted areas can help provide safe shelter for when they do need a break.

They have plenty of places to hide and do it well. I wasn't sure if another male would distract the male in there now or more females to disperse the chasing.

So should I add more males or more females if I leave the cherry barbs in my 10g?

More females to spread out the male's aggression.

Do you have a pic of the setup?

Thats the setup minus the water pump. They are able to hide in the driftwood, pot, back left corner where java moss is growing, and under filter over hang.

Yup, definitely more plants for them. As for the ratio of males to females, I was told from the very beginning to keep them in a 1:1 ratio and that is what I have always done and never had a problem at all. Of course, they were always kept in a well planted tank but even at that, I had no more than the normal. They all did their little chasing game, everyone chased everyone.

I moved the male to my 29g. The females still think the male is in the tank, so they are hiding then exploring then hiding again. Eventually, I will move both females up to the 29g, or just get rid of both tanks and put all the fish in a 55g. Thank you all.
