What kind of barbs are you talking about? Not all barbs are equal. Cherry Barbs and Gold Barbs do great in planted tanks as do Rosey Barbs and Tiger Barbs. Denison Barbs are a great addition to a larger planted system. The tank below was a 75gal that I had that had Cherry Barbs, Gold Barbs, and Neon Rosey Barbs.

Beauty of a tank there, and absolutely true about the fact that some barbs are not barbs as one would think. That is, golds and cherrys are usually far more passive.

yeah forgot to add. These Barbs are really graceful fish. I have a pair of gold barbs in my tank and they are the most peaceful. BArbs are easy to breed too. I bred my cherries in a separate tank and have lots of fry but i also see my gold barbs spawning every week in the mian tank.
