I don't see why not. Just clean them really well and let them soak a bit, to release the air inside of them. If I remember correctly, bricks are extremely porous.

the only thing i would worry about is how abrasive they are to the fish if they were to run into them. so if you could get some smoother ones, that would be good.. Also, make sure none of your fish can get stuck in those holes!!

If using red brick, another thing to consider is the potential for the color to leach into the water... I know after having touched fresh red brick, it seems that the powder that comes off can be red.

I use small pieces of brick. I cured them first... using boiling water and soaked them overnight. If red comes out in the water... do not use. The bricks I used were really smooth and weathered from being outside. They were nice and smooth and didn't contain any sharp edges.

Make sure the brick does not contain concrete or have pieces of concrete attached.

I think landscaping brick is too porous. But, no less than lava rock. However, I still wouldn't use it.

What are bricks made from? Do they put lime in the motar when pouring them? Might need to find that out.

Brick.. well real brick is made of clay. Essentially it is ceremics for the builiding industry. Totally harmless.

I got a tip for ya if you put a little vinegar on your brick-rocks and it bubbels then it contains toxics that will harm your fish if not then it will be ok! This method is used to determin acid rain!.

it would be for a crayfish tank, so the rough surface wouldn't hurt him, and would be good for climbing around on

if you stacked a bunch of them in a large tank, they would make great cray condos

LOL! Yeah... they are made of pretty much the same thing as terracotta pots. No chemicals are usually used for setting... just baked in the oven.

You should be good to go.
