why exactly do plecostomus need driftwood. what nutrients does driftwoods supply that could not be aquired by other means. Thanks

Most use it to hide under as they would in nature during the day, and they scrape the biofilm off the wood as a component of their diet. Some species actually gnaw at the wood itself making it essential that driftwood be used in their aquariums as its a major part of their diet.
Any particular reason why you wouldn't want driftwood in your pleco tank?
