Will start my journal over here since I have decided to do a nano reef instead of a freshwater.

Got the stand built last month, picked up a standard 20g high marineland a couple weeks ago, picked up a 10g last week that will be my sump.

Today I picked up an overflow box from a local reef shop (what a great find and close too home. No more driving 45 mins one way)

Thanks :) yes one marked off and many more to go. Lol

I'm really considering the current LOOP system minus the light (maybe) not sure how the lights do growing coral cause I at least want one or two sps.

A side from snails and maybe some hermits I haven't thought about livestock much in the form of fish. Coal on the other hand, I know I want at least a couple of sps. Not sure which yet. But I know I want a few colonies of zoas and I want some acans and definitely want some frog spawn...i honestly miss my gsp I had growing on my back wall of my red sea so I may do something similar with that. Man I can't start thinking about stock yet lol or I will go nuts!

So far I got a few of the main bits of hardware just got to put together the rest and I will be rocking and rolling.

So excited to see another salty journal. Iíve heard great things about the eclipse boxes, that was a great pick up.

My 2 cents on the current lights is donít do it. I had them on my 34 and now on my dads 20 gallon high. They will support lower light coral but I donít feel the higher demand stuff will make it with them. I hoping to buy a pair of the lights boof has for my dad for his 20 high for Christmas. Weíll see how big our Christmas budget is.

Looking great so far!

Yeah I have Andres lights in my shopping cart on Amazon... I may spring for something else when it comes time to buy lights though. Who knows lol

Now I have to decide if I want to mount the overflow on the middle or towards the side hmm.

Also I am planning on a herbie style, need to start researching on plumbing now.

Man sitting here lookin at this overflow it is really going to be slim and sexy in the tank. Really looking forward to this build finally. :)

That is a nice overflow. I love how it hugs the wall.

I think for a smaller tank that a middle position would work best.

I agree with BluewaterBoof, I actually think even bigger tanks thats the best position. I also like the boxes like this vs the bottom drilled like mine.

Hermits are jerk faces. Some folks don't mind them but they drove me bonkers. They were always starting crap with each other and the snails over shells (I even put in tons of extra shells of various shapes and sizes). They always tried stealing food from my corals. And they always knocked frags loose and I was constantly re-gluing everything. I'd be so mad waking up and seeing one of my corals upside down on the substrate... :smad:

Check out some of these:
Leptoseris
Leptastrea
Pavona

If you want something that has a nice feeding response that you can give some meaty foods to, might want to look into adding a duncan or an elegance coral.

Lol that's funny Andre about your hermits. My trochous(spelling?) Snails were the ones that knocked over my coral lol.
I will look those up.

Oh on another note I am thinking about drilling a return also maybe lol

The return is the one I'm struggling with on my frag tank. It will make it look super clean drilled, but feels like you're playing with fire. I'm sure I will end up drilling my returns as well, just like the look of it. I think it's worth the risk of drilling 4 holes vs 2.

Yeah I agree love the way it looks with nothing sticking over the rim.

Lol I was trying to stay to a certain budget but the overflow alone blew my budget lol

not much to update.

I have been thinking of changing some things up. Like I'm thinking of going with one of the small cube sumps from trigger or icecap. Also thinking of maybe going with eco tech s1 dc return pump. Still going over options.

I've heard good things about those pump, and I've been around set ups with them and they are silent.
