Are Ghost Shrimp finicky with water quality? Twice now I've bought shrimp and added them to a well-established tank and they never lasted long. I'd love to put shrimp in my 55 gallon (RCS perhaps) but I'm afraid to if it's an issue with all shrimp

Ghost or grass shrimp usually don't get the best care before you get them, they're often just sold as feeders, so they're not taken very good care of

Well that's good to know.

I saw an ad on craigslist that someone locally is selling red cherry shrimp for a buck each. Perhaps I'll take a chance.

RCS are pretty hardy, start with 12 or 15 so you get a few good breeding pairs

excellent advice from one who knows

Just figure out the rest of your stocking list for the tank. You don't want the RCS to become an expensive snack.

I will .....thanks!

I'm stocking it with Rainbows and either Cories, or dwarf chain loaches

Hmmm...never kept rainbows, not sure if they'll prey on the RCS or not

I think Amano and Bamboo shrimp would work? And there's always shrimp tubes which shouldn't be that difficult to make...

I wouldn't add Bamboos to an immature tank.

They shouldn't be able to since their mouths are on the small side

I didn't think of that, but man shrimp are gonna love those sponge filters.

Yes sir, you could use pvc pipe\tubing as well and silicone them together....do they make clear pvc? It's be neat to see what's going on inside those caves.

I've never seen clear pvc but I could easily take a flexible clear plastic sheet and make a see-through cave.

You might consider asking AmazonJoe his opinion

If it fits in the mouth. There is a possibility

I do have plenty of hiding spaces around plants and rocks

Nice thing about ghosts is there super cheap and a good gauge to see how fish may react to shrimp if later you want more expensive choices.
