So a really fast update.
Started making a small refuge for the tank.

Also gotten a few new corals.
Some are still sulking some are not.

A update with a new DIY toy on the reef tank.
So see how it runs, over time!

Main thing for me though is it is a location for pods to live once the mandarine arrives one day in the future.
And when I can get say $450.00 for it!

Wow what a walk down Memory Lane.
Hell I remember back 2010 on this forum and the routine then is so different now.

Unfortunately face poke seems to be leading in a few miss directions.

Thank you so much for sharing the Mike Paletta video, Mac! Those early pioneers in reef keeping got us where we are today and I'm grateful for their efforts, perseverance and willingness to share their knowledge. I find it really interesting hearing how the hobby has progressed from someone that's been there pretty much from the beginning.

I find it really interesting hearing how the hobby has progressed from someone that's been there pretty much from the beginning. There is so much forgotten with the modern media regarding the fish keeping effort that took place early on to get us to where we are today.

This puts me in the mind that I should do. Video about it.

Side note since the ac hob refuge is such a success, should I do a second one and delete the canister filter altogether.

This DIY fuge is so full of life it isn't funny.
That and it grows chateo so fast. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190208/6d63b168d03d08ed5d4cd9686c461a20.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190208/7a9cd6cfcc3685bfbe3d6160b108b5b7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190208/c20dbf959c0429cdc223a8db927ee7cf.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190208/e0d9dc3bd872c1c8447231da8a50d26c.jpg

Well I have been lazy.
Two weeks I have done three water changes with nsw in the reef tank.
Simple and easy.

But I have not cleaned the canister.
My nitrates have not changed, but the po4 had climbed.

Chateo doing it's thing well, but not enough.
So cleaned the canister, poly filter some ceramic media and that is all.
Poly filter was terribly dirty, hence the issue.

Going to try a experiment.
Poly filter phosban and see if that will help out in the short term to keep things better.
Majestic aquariums Australia loves the stuff, and swears by it.

Well it's be a little bit since upgrade.
What has changed?

Well the canister filter has weekly Polly floss changed, ceramic media cleaned a little.
Then the phosban pad is checked, and depending on slight colour change it is changed.
Tank wise things have really changed.
The hob refugium has been thined out for the chaeto to grow more.
The addition of 5ml a day of aqua forest nopox I think is the correct name.
This has been helping the skimmer clean things up.
Also the weekly water change now has reached 20 percent.
Total benefits the zoas have opened up and spreading.
The cynobacteria has vanished.
And the lawn mower bleny is now dealing with his lawn.

Had a few decent arguments around the internet that a canister and hob will never work.

So far things are working and not costing a fortune. Well one thing cost and that was the citron Gobi which died.

No matter what I did or tried the little fellow refused to eat.

Sorry to hear that you lost your Gobi. Congrats on eradicating the cynobacteria!

Sorry to hear that you lost your Gobi. Congrats on eradicating the cynobacteria! It was sad indeed.

I suspect he had the chemical exposure when captured. Apparently that's what stops them eating.

Got a new lawn mower. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190310/95645e169d6d75ea3dc69bc2fcc1d289.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190310/ef9608fb5bdcdb5d99062dfc5edacb12.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190310/9cbab3f04dc30064565aa6580562e862.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190310/2c212a7a5ad540a50fc7f426944bcefa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190310/047df5fed3015f9a5cafcc7fc4f5ff0e.jpg

Getting ready to upgrade some things in the reef tank.

The canister filter will get axed soon.
Not because it dose not work for reefing, I am wanting to step it up with more of a larger refugium vs the aqua clear 50 hob refug. I am needing for pods, tons and tons of pods for a mandarine.

So time for some DIY over head sump. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190908/6b99eb165df0f91027262521aea5b259.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190908/c3ff750d51a7f77ee13674ae149cab28.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190908/d3e4e3e7207dff6a09fc31a38f5cbad3.jpg
