So I received a free super small tank setup(1.5g) from uhhh a "coworker" and really only thing I would remotely consider was a betta so me and my buddy picked out about five or so and I went with this one because of the complex colors. Now I fully understand that this is still way to small for him. So he will get his own 10g in the near future. Just had this opportunity and took it, always wanted a betta! I think there very entertaining little fish this one started challenging his reflection within hours after acclimation/settling in lol

Please let me know what kind this is or color variant because this is not my area of expertise :)

And for inquiring minds I used some seeded media from another filter

Never thought I would want one either, but one day, one caught my eye thanks to its beautiful colors. He now lives in a 5 Gallon on my desktop.

Mine actually likes me to "pet" him. About half the times I have my hand in the tank for any reason (Water changes, trimming plants, etc.) he comes right to my hand and swims back and forth "rubbing" his back and dorsal fin against my fingers. He is the silliest thing, and he is highly entertaining. So much so, that I am planning on building a Multi-Betta tank where I can house multiple males sometime in the next year or so.

He is very handsome with the red and purple coloring. I'm sure he will have a wonderful life with your care.

Congratulations-he is a very pretty boy! Look at him flare for the camera, cutie pie. He looks like either a rose or delta/super delta to me, and seems to fit the "butterfly" coloration with a solid color body and dual colored tail.

Colors on all of the bettas I have bought/kept have almost always changed to varying degrees due to an improved diet and living conditions. since he is so heavily finned her should have a tank with very minimal flow-sponge filter will probably be best or an Azoo Palm filter or two would work as well. I actually have 2 of them (each on a 5.5 gallon) and am able to put the sponge (I omit the black "carbon" sponge) and small bag of the Eheim substrat (coco-puffs) for BB media.

I'd like to add a shrimp or mystery snail whenever I get the larger tank

Try him on shrimp with something not so expensive-in case he is a shrimp killer.

Congrats on the betta, Joe! They're really fun. Lots of personality for such a tiny fish.

I think your right Boundava looks like superdelta tail type and butterfly coloration I already noticed he changes color how cool :)

Boof, hillarious comic!

Joe, trying him on ghost may or may not work-he actually may not notice them. It depends on how attentive he is. I had a betta who was fine with ghost and devoured any blue culls I had in the tank.

My veil tail would play with the ghosts in his tank haha I would drop a wafer for them and he would play keep-away. He'd pick it up and swim off, then return and drop it in front of the waiting shrimp, only to chase them away from it and start the whole process over again.

How cute of him, funny how some fish entertain themselves. Its recommended to add things like ping pong balls for dwarf puffers to interact with-they like to play with things, lol. Don't know if she would play "keep away" with the shrimp or all-you-can-eat buffet!

We tried adding ping pong balls and other things for him. He ignored everything else. Once the mystery snail and shrimp went in he chilled out a lot...used to nip his own tail. All that stopped with the addition of the tank mates. Now that he is finally in the 29g community, he's very lively and peaceful. His tail is completely healed up.

Well put him in after water temp raised up some. He seemed very excited swimming around scoping his new domain the blue coloration came out more then I've ever seen it so far! thumbs2:

Agreed -- That is a very cool piece of dw! I like the way you've positioned it, too. Did you attach it to rock or anything?

AmazonJoe
08-13-2016, 07:52 PM
Thanks! The piece has a nice wide base and stands up straight on its own so no need for any rock to hold it down or to keep it up.

Wow big difference on water clarity after adding the box filter great value for small tank and bioload. Plus from what I've read slow current is the best for bettas.

Good that you got him some plants. I've probably said it before, but I love that piece of dw you have in this tank.
Do you recall which type of anubias that is?

Floating flake food for a betta?...many have commented that they will gulp air when fed in this fashion, but I never had a problem with my bettas or any other fish with bloating when I feed flakes

Those shrimp gave it a shot, but didn't have a chance, lol

AmazonJoe
12-31-2016, 12:32 AM
I've tried everything else but he only eats flake.
I mean Betta gulp air for oxygen so I mean probably not going to be a problem right lol

The shrimp tried but Betta said not today!

Hmm gulping air and eating??

I find that a bit odd to cause a problem? Like really in the wild I am sure if a small insect lands on the water either a Gourmai or Betta is going to gulp it down?
Can't be bad for them else they would have died out many years ago from eat from the surface??

AmazonJoe
12-31-2016, 02:39 AM
There are cases of fish rupturing its swim bladder supposedly from gulping air idk if its happened to a betta before..

Guess that would come down to a combinations of error on the fish's part. Not really food.
I am wondering though if it maybe to big a chunk of food or one of the crisps that wedged into the fish's mouth leading to to much air like choking maybe??

I do like this tank. You've got a great collection of plants, a beauty of a Betta and dang, that looks like a huge snail.
