Yes and no.

A small red tailed catfish would work well in the tank but an large adult catfish might consider some of that fish as food ( primarely the silver dollars). They can grow to be 3-4 ft. It is a veyr nice fish that grows to large for most aquarists.

I get the regular one. the redtailshovelnosecatfish is a hybrid redtail catfish x shovelnose catfish which often grows even faster than the red tail.

And I prefer "clean" species ;-)

the regular one. With clean I mean pure species while the other is cross between two species.

They are pretty cool. I would never get one just because i would never be able to properly care for it( space wise)

$60.00?
$25.00?

My LFS has juvenile RTCs (about 3-4") for $12.00. They're quite healthy too.

They don't so much kill all your fish, they just eat them whole. I raise tsns for a local LFS/aquarium. They are quite similar.

well, if they swallow them whole that would effectively kill them! would it not? lol it's not like they live inside the cats. stomach.

blake you can buy a used one in good condition for several hundred dollars . .just have to find them for sale and make an offer .. if the seller is motivated you can get it for next to nothing...i once got a complete 125 gallon setup for salt AND freshwater for free....and like a dummy i sold it for cheap. . .check craigslist.org...you might get lucky

Man, I would never be able to house something that big! I believe that over in the States your houses are like, really big. Where as over in England, they aint, unless you are loaded! What dimensions would a 300 gallon tank be? What are they made out of? Just curious.
