The gal at the store said it was called a dragon scale betta. Never heard of that before. Is there anyone that can enlighten me?

the gal was right. "dragon scale" refers to the metallic coloring of the scales. As far as the tail shape, looks like a standard veiltail to me. So it's a vailtail dragonscale.

I just thought of it as a veiltail. What type of tail do the dragon scale bettas have?

dragon scale bettas can have any kind of tail. that's why I'm calling it a dragonscale veiltail. The coloration of the scales makes it a dragonscale, and the shape of the tail makes it a veiltail. You could have a dragonscale crowntail, or a dragonscale plakat, or whatever.

yeah tail shape and body color are just two different things that are not related. It just comes down to what the breeder wanted to accomplish.
