Hi, my pair of bettas have just bred, the female even helped put the eggs into the bubble nest which surprised me, but I was wondering. Ive taken the female out and I fed her, when do I feed the male? I was going to feed him just now but they only just finished breeding and he is busy looking after the eggs. Will feeding him now get him confused and make him eat the eggs aswell? Or make him neglect the eggs? Probably a stupid question but I appreciate any advice. Thank you :)

I'm not an expert, but plan on getting a Betta soon. I've done a bit of research and just going off my experience with the fish I have bred and what I've read. If he's still messing around with the eggs, leave him be for a bit. When he seems to distant himself a little bit from the eggs like he's done fixing the nest, I would then try to feed him. Do a very small portion to test if he'll eat it or not. If he doesn't, don't worry about it. Adult fish can go awhile without food.
Hope I could be of some help! :)

He'll probably be attentive to the eggs for a few days, I wouldnt worry about it. Also, congrats on the eggs! Hope it leads to many little betta babies for you. :)

Can't wait to see the babies! They'll grow up to have a really nice red color! Do I see a little bit of blue on the daddy?

Daddy has an aqua blue/ green colour in amongst the red. When he wasnt displaying to the girl the red had a purpley sheen but as soon as he saw the girl the greeny/blue came out so vibrantly! I was amazed. The girl went a really lovely pink colour too. Daddy is being busy today keeping check on the eggs. The nest has been expanded to nearly double the size of yesterday too. You can see the eggs floating in it. Unfortunately I dont think my camera would take a good enough pic :(

I just tried to take some pics. Unsure if you can see the white dots under the bubbles? They are the eggs.372723727337274

That is just too cool. What is your plan for the babies? I had toyed with the idea of selectively breeding bettas. I just didn't want to wait years to get what I wanted. LOL

Plans for the fry are probably keep a few to see how the develop, luckily being little fish i can accomodate a fair few and then Im going to give some to friends. Im trying not to get too ahead of myself as I honestly dont know how many will survive. Im doing as much research as I can but the saying goes "dont count your chickens before they hatch" lol. Since I have 3 children under 12, Im assuming alot of them will stay haha

You could let each of your children pick one to keep and give them a nice experience! That's if you want 3 more aquariums...
I've also been thinking about possibly breeding Betta's, but I don't have the funds nor the space to keep the babies I can't get rid of immediately. Definitely keep us updated on these guys!

Haha theyre the reason we even have bettas to start with! My middle sons fish is the mum, my younger son fish is the dad and my daughters fish is waiting for her turn with my white male. So since the kids are now "grand parents" in a sense they will definately be picking a fish each ;)
Ill keep you updated as Ill probably have more questions and hopefully more pics to show off :D

Look forward to it!

Not to make you feel old, but just out of curiosity, does that make you a great-grandmother??? ;)

Wow, congrats on the eggs. I agree your bettas are going to make a bunch of gorgeous babies because they are so beautiful already. Can't wait to see the little ones swimming about. Best of luck to you and daddy!

They have hatched!!! I checked them and i noticed some of the eggs were wriggling. So now daddy is very busy picking up any that drop and spitting them back into the nest. :)

Here is todays update. The fry are starting to move a bit more. Still connected to their yolk sacs but are swimming in small circles underneath the bubbles. Not sure if you can see the white dots in the pics. They are the fry. Daddy is still doing a brilliant job too. He deserves the most praise of all so far lol Im just watching at this stage ;)37331373323733337334
