I recently got a new Betta, he has been in his cycled 6.4 gallon tank for 4 days and although he is swimming around and eating he will also spend a lot of time sitting on plants or the substrate and will also go to the back of the tank and sit under the plants for a while.

Is this considered normal Betta behavior? Or could he still be settling in? Here is a few pics I snapped when he was out and about:

Tank looks good as does the fish. Sounds normal to me. Perhaps try a bit of live food and see what he does?

Are you in a position to start a mosquito larvae breeding project? Most of your fish would love those.

The one betta I used to keep also tended to take rests on leaves. Maybe they exert themselves more than. Other fish due to their fins?

PS: that is a gorgeous betta. I've never seen another with that color.

Yeah, my betta does that as well. They actually sell a fake leaf you can suction cup to the side of a tank for him to lay on. You don't need it, but it just goes to show how common this is.

And I'm going to agree with Madagascariensis. That is an amazing betta. Never seen one like it either. You just get it from your local LFS or some special order?

I've been feeding him daphnia and brine shrimp, he seeks them out :) I'm going to continue as it gives him something to do. I was going to put some crystal red shrimp in with him but have been told he will eat them :(

I'm glad you like him, I got him from aquabid.com as I wanted a nice halfmoon but local shops never seem to have them in.

He is very pretty, and his behavior is perfectly normal. We keep our betta in a 10 gallon with RCS, and I've never seen him go after them.

Good to know. I just went and looked at the Bettas they have up for sale. Wow, I might just have to get one from there in the event mine passes... or should I just get another tank? Yeah.... another tank...

Im considering trying it, there are ramshorn snails in the tank and so far he hasnt bothered them. I might just get 3 and see what happens.

Haha trust me if I had space I would get another tank setup for one! There are some real stunners on there, when my veiltail in my community tank passes I may have to get another...
