I am 99% certain that my betta has a cherry shrimp stuck in his mouth. I can see antenna sticking out. :( But it looks very lodged in there, and I can see him trying to dislodge it (jaw moving, etc). What can I do to get the shrimp out that is safe? I am afraid he will starve.

Or should I just wait and see?

Thanks.

Unless the betta seems to be in respiratory distress, I'd let the fish work it out. If the betta actually manages to swallow the shrimp, don't feed for the next few days at least.
Or else, catch the fish and try tugging on the antennae as close to the body as possible with a tweezer. At least, it worked for me with a guppy that got a snail shell fragment lodged in its mouth.

What precautions should I take if I decide to catch him? You meant holding him, right?

Thanks.

Well turns out he was able to swallow it, thank goodness. No problems now. :)
