Hi everyone :D

I have had this pleco since he/she was about 1 inches long (now he/she is 4 inches long) and I have been trying to identify what kind of pleco he/she is but I have not found any picture (the closest one are the ones in the topic titled "rescued plec will need a home" but this one has bigger eyes than mine).

Can someone point me in the right direction so I can find out more about my pleco like how to tell if it's a boy or a girl?

Here is a picture of him/her...

Thanks.

I think that one looks like a common pleco. I am sure REV can tell you for sure once he comes around.

It does look like a common pleco. If so expect him to reach about 24"

You know what, that looks just like my pleco, and from what I could find on the net I think it is a marbled sailfin plecostamus, Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus. Check out http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/217.htm and let me know what you think.

In my opinion....the different types of what are generally considered "common plecos" which include the liposarcus and another type that begins with an hypo something or another I believe are very hard to distinguish. One of the ways they can is tell is by the number of rays in the dorsal fin. It does look alot like my liposarcus pardalis (as id'd by planetcatfish). How long have you had it? Mine was about 3.75" July 4th when I rescued it, and is now over 5"! If noone here is better at an id for you I would recommend planet catfish....esp. too if you think it might be a gibby as I believe there are several members who are gibby fans and would be able to quickly say yay or nay.
You are aware I hope that most pleco's get very large and you will need a pretty big aquarium?
