Hiya! I have a pretty new set up (four months) and my first loach was a butterfly. I absolutely love her! She reminds me of a little puppy as she wags her tail round the tank.. I've recently upped the temperature to 80 as I've introduced a pair of Bolivian Rams and I've noticed she's much more active (although I initially bought her because they can withstand coldwater, which is what I started out with). She has a real personality!

Hope you have as much fun with yours as I have with mine thumbs2:

Hey there.

Hillstream loaches need to be kept in fast moving water and cooler temperatures. Its best if you have a specialist 'river tank' set up for them.

My two are in my community tank awaiting the completion of my river tank. The water is circulated only by my filter which is a 125L/hr in a 60L tank. The stronger the current the better, however none of my other fish in the community tank could tolerate a faster flow.

If you're after more information, I recomend you go to http://www.loaches.com/ and read the articles by Martin Thoene.

I have a Hillstream Loach and I agree, they are a beautiful fish. Its very active on the glass and on the bottom where it loves to root around in the gravel.
It shares a tank with a couple of shubunkin that love to steal the algae tablets I feed it. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you solve it? Getting another tank isn't an option because I live in a small apt.
