Description:
|
Maxi-Jet®PH pump and power head is ideal for powering undergravel filters or creating internal water movement from its fully rotational output. The Maxi-Jet®PH incorporates a venturi aeration device to provide optimal aeration and gas exchange in the aquarium. A silencer keeps the venturi aeration device operating quietly. An adjustable air filter permits the user to fine-tune air volume and water mixing as desired. The intake tube adapter with prefilter screen prevents gravel or loose material in the aquarium from getting into the pump.
Maxi-Jet®PH pump and power head includes an innovative triple-suction cup mount, an adjustable hook with cable guide, and a grid support for optional foam cartridge, and comes in a complete range of sizes.

Maxi-Jets are one of the most reliable powerheads available. They run well and run for quite a while. The great part about these powerheads is that they can be modified with the use of a Sure Flo mod kit to create a greater amount of flow. A Maxi-Jet 1200 with a Sure Flo mod kit can produce up to 2100gph of flow. These powerheads come with 2 different strainers, one for use with a Undergravel filter and one for use when simply generating flow. The Maxi-Jet line also holds up well under use on Wave Makers like the Wavemaster Pro from Red Sea.

Suction cups and directed flow
|
I would mainly recommend this pump for mixing of saltwater for water changes. The directed flow can be a good thing, but it isn't that great for saltwater tanks. The suction cups are the worst part of this powerhead, because they fail too easily. For saltwater mixing, hospital, and QT tanks, this is a good cheap alternative to the more expensive of powerheads.

For those of you who want a SW tank and never have had one before or just starting out, read this blog entry from my blog on AC, it will give you a place to start.

Suction cups

I use the Maxi-Jet for creating water movement. I really like having the ability to rotate the water flow in a particular direction plus being able to control how strong the "current" of water will be.
Thank goodness it has a hook to hang over the side of the aquarium because the suction cups don't seem to work well. But that's the only negative thing I have found with this product.

The maxi-jet 1200 with the mod is great it takes the flow and puts it out in a wider cone shape instead of a narrow stream, you can now purchase a magnet upgrade and get rid of the suction cups, I cant remember the name of manufacturer of the magnet holder but its great.

Very inexpensive

Not very flexible

I own three of these and use them for various reasons. I have a MJ1200 as a return pump my my 10g display/10g sump setup. I have another MJ1200 to mix saltwater with. And then I have a MJ400 that I've connected to a gravel vac for a CO2 diffuser. For the most part, I'm very pleased so far with the performance on all of them.
