Positive aspects of the product (pros):
Easy to use, various adapters included
Cons:
Excess debris may need an additional step (minor - see below)
The gravel guard at the top of the siphon tube would certainly be effective in preventing fish from being accidentally sucked up, as it will also catch plant leaves and other debris. However, this does mean if you have a particularly messy tank, you will want to clear that portion of your vac by starting the water return over your waste area.
Have used this vac repeatedly with excellent results.

I'll never use buckets again on any tank 40 gallons or more.

It makes cleaning an aquarium easy to maintain.
Cons:
The O rings on my valve were not installed properly and were flattened on one side.
I bought this because using buckets gets messy and cumbersome. No mor fuss. It takes me longer to scrub the alge off the glass than to change some water. I have been using this for two and a half years since I got back into keeping fish. Absolutely love this.
