Positive aspects of the product (pros): low cost media
Cons: you get what you pay for

I started using these on my last tank set-up as I was looking for a cheaper alternative to biomax ceramic rings. They seem to provide the same amount of surface area for BB based on manufactures statements. They are however a lot harder to clean.

Should only be used in sump systems and not canister filters.

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

These have been around for a long time I used the product 25 years ago. A good product is time less.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Long lasting - Cheap when used
Cons: Can be a PITA to clean if they get funky.

I bought a 6G bag of these for 10$ at my lfs and used some of them in a trickle tower for my 100 for a long time. I still have them but they are not currently in use. No complaints though.
