Description:
Flourite is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any aquarium environment. Flourite is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. It should be rinsed thoroughly before adding it to the aquarium, or it will cloud the water. 1 bag should be sufficient for a 10gal tank.

Great for plamts, very natural look
Cons:

expensive, clouds water

This is great for planted tanks. It is expensive, and will cloud the water, but it is definetly worth it. The appearence is very natural, more than you might think. Rinse thoroughly before adding to the tank.

great for plants, easy plants don't even need ferts, natural look
Cons:
expensive, clouds water at first
This stuff is great for plants, and if you get some easier plants they don't even need ferts with this stuff. It clouds water for the first little while, but if you keep up with your WC and really scrub it up at first, the clouding won't last too long.

Way too expensive but if it works...might be worth it.
You can get it in a wide range of colors and they even make black sand now.
This WILL NOT cloud your water if you clean it enough. Just place it in a bucket and let water run though it for a while until it's clear.

Great planted substrate, variety of colors
Cons:
pain to rinse, regular is not good for cories/soft bellied bottom dwellers
Great planted tank substrate, am loving the black sand flourite. The black flourite is also awesome looking and not nearly as sharp as the regular. The regular is still a great substrate but I wouldn't keep cories on it.

Fantastic for plants
Cons:
Get ready to rinse, and rinse some more
Absolutely worth the trouble if you are going to have a planted tank. If you have cories you will want to put a layer of smooth small pebble substrate on top to make the surface smoother and easier on their mouths. Digging fish will raise a cloud in this stuff, but your lush plant growth will make it worth the trouble.
