Description: I bought this fixture after doing a little research. I found mix reviews, but nothing to horrible, so I decided to try it out. The fixture itself is of pretty good construction. Materials: Full metal body, plastic end caps, plastic legs, acrylic splashguard. This model has 3 light settings. 1st setting controls 2 t5's, second setting controls other 2 t5's, and 3rd setting controls 4 pairs of moon lights. Timer is very easy to use and works great. Light has 2 fans, one intake fan and one exhaust fan. Even with running all 4 lights for about 2 hours together the fixture never gets hot. Just slightly warm. The bulbs that came with this fixture were pretty good, all came intact and in working condition. I have had this light for about 1 1/2 months, and experienced awesome growth compared to factory dual 15 watt lights I had before. I observed about 4" of growth on stem plants in 1 1/2 weeks in a 24" deep tank. So far I use the moonlights (that consist of 4 pairs of blue LEDs) every night for 4 hours. There has been 0% failure on these. I have read a lot about other manufactures having LED's that fail soon after purchase. I highly recommend this light for its price $109.99 and free shipping. I don't recommend it for any tank larger than that. There is no lense over the LED's; they are recessed but could be touched with a finger. On one hand, there is no lense to trap moisture or get scratched. On the other hand, the LED's look easy to damage.

Description: One gallon of a popular brand of bioballs has approximately 160.82 square feet of surface area per cubic foot. A cubic foot of Marinepure 1.5� spheres has 98,000 square feet of surface area in a cubic foot which is around 600 times the surface area. It seems almost impossible that a single Marinepure sphere has the same surface area as 1.5 cubic feet of bioballs but frankly a bioaball is plastic and can�t touch the interconnected porosity of Marinepure. For example the interconnected porosity of a single teasoon of activated carbon has the surface area of an entire football field (57,600 square feet). The power of Marine Pure is the combination of surface area and interconnected pores. Other medias don't have the combination of interconnected pores that allow for flow through the media. This combination provides an opportunity for the biofilm to spread out and be thin. All biofilms are made of bacteria that live grow and die. This live cycle process is called biofilm sloughing or shedding. Biomedia that has relatively low surface area or poor flow through will produce a thick biofilm. Thick biofilm's produce brown floc which can cloud the water or accumulate downstream in the filter system. The biofilm that grows on Marine Pure spreads out...a thin biofilm. As the natural shedding occurs it does not produce floc. Bacteria die as individuals rather than in larger patches...

Description: The Fluval Q2 air pump is a very quiet and powerful unit. When I first plugged it in I thought it was not running it was so quiet. It is big but not to big. It has variable output and produces constant air flow. It has a swing arm and diaphragm design. It is also double walled and has rubber feet. It is also very well built and feels very sturdy. I paid $35.20 I got 20% off due to a big sale at my LFS. I give it a 9.5 rating. I have a Rena air pump on my 45 and I like it but it is not as quiet as this pump.
