The giant clam was actually discovered by Dr. Quiaoit’s research group, and she was the one who pushed for the idea that it might be a new species. They proved it through genetic analysis with the help of Marc Kochzius of Bremen University.

The person who discovered this is Dr. Hilly Ann Roa-Quiaoit, a faculty at the Biology Department and current director of the McKeough Marine Center in Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan), Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.
This was in our campus and local newspaper.

The data about the new species was presented by Claudio Richter, a marine ecologist at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany. The species was however discovered as a part of a research project in the Red sea and I can not say with 100% safety who was the first to discover it or recognize it as a new species.

However I see your point and will try to include that data in future articles. Thanks for your input.

I think that you should give an actual name to the person or people who found this new gaint clam. It’s a piece of information that I would like to know and probably other people researching this topic.
