I observed a small ray seemingly to play just below the surface of the water at Bribie Island Australia, about ten days ago. It was gently flipping its wing tips out of the water and swimming around pretty much in the same area, at frst we thought it was fishing then it almost seemed to be basking in the sun (hot day cold fish ???)
Myself and two freinds observed this for about 15 minutes and it was also doing something to make the water splash. Then it just jumped out of the water. it was for a few moments airborne about 12 to 18 inches above the surface, in a forward motion and flat as it would be if it were swimming - do these lovely creatures play like that. Im still incredulous, it was amazing.
Thanks for your site to Helen :)
