		<description>One more tidbit that I just came across on the Sea Shepherd’s website was a press release stating, ”Of the initial set quota of 280,000 seals, Canadian sealers were only able to slaughter 59,500 seals this year.”

		<description>Thanks for the update.  I actually got quite a laugh out of one of the quotes you dug up by Diana Wallis in her reference to the feelings of fishermen towards seals and how hunting is required “...to ensure the sustainability of fisheries in some area.“

I guess that is the difference between a fishermen’s [in this particular instance] definition of `fisheries’ and that of a conservationist.  The former being enough for profitable commercial harvesting and the later being enough to sustain ocean ecosystems.  It appears to be forgotten that as part of the food web, seals themselves have been practicing sustainable fishing throughout time immemorial. It is we that have upset the balance.
