Vizsla Resources

The Vizsla is often referred to as the Hungarian Vizsla, since it originates from Hungary. Its name should be pronounced VEEZH-luh, where “zh” is pronounced as the “si” in vision. The Vizsla is a hunting dog that has been used in since the very early days of the Hungarian history. It can trace its ancestry back to the rat hunting dogs that lived with the Magyar tribes in the Carpathian Basin from the 9th century. Today, the Vizsla dog is kept as hunting dog as well as a family dog. The Vizsla is loyal, gentle-mannered and very affectionate. It rarely barks, unless it finds it absolutely necessary. There is a wirehaired variety that was created during the 1930s by crossing the shorthaired Vizsla with the German Wirehaired Pointer.
