Shetland Sheepdog

The Shetland Sheepdog is sometimes mistaken for a miniature Collie, but it is an independent breed that developed on the Shetland Islands of Scotland. It is commonly referred to as Sheltie. As the name suggests, the Shetland Sheepdog is a herding breed and its herding instincts are very strong. When not provided with sheep or other livestock to herd, the Shetland Sheepdog can start herding people – especially children – by circling around them, barking and even nipping at their heels. It is therefore a good idea to provide your Shetland Sheepdog with other forms of activities, such as agility contests where it will be forced to use its brain as well as its body. You should also give it plenty of opportunity to run around in wide open areas. You can learn more about the Shetland Sheepdog from the resources listed below.
