Golden Retriever Poodle Mix - Goldendoodle

Golden Retriever Poodle Mix – from the name itself you can tell from which breeds this dog hails. Commonly called Goldendoodle, this is a designer breed whose dog parents are Golden Retriever and Poodle. Originally from Australia, the development of Goldendoodle is due to the demand for the perfect dog companion for those prone to allergies, since quite a few allergy sufferers that are sensitive to heavily shedding dogs can tolerate poodles. Goldendoodle is the perfect breed combination since both dog breeds are active, enthusiastic, energy and friendly. Not only that, the Goldendoodle is a one-of-a-kind dog which shows hybrid vigor. The characteristics and genes of the two unrelated purebred parent dogs increase the chance of a healthy dog, as long as the parents are selected with care.

The size of a Golden Retriever Poodle Mix is varies. It all depends on what breed of Poodle a Golden Retriever will be cross-breed with. When a Golden Retriever is paired up with a Toy Poodle, the resulting dog can only be 9-18 pounds as an adult. If a Goldendoodle hails from a small Standard Poodle and a Golden Retriever it can weigh from 25-55 pounds. Lastly, a Royal Standard Poodle mixed with a purebred Golden Retriever can weigh more than 100 pounds when it fully grew as an adult. The same goes with the color and coat texture of the offspring. The coat of the Golden Retrievers does have variations in coat color. The shades can be from light to medium gold. Some Goldens even have copper-red coat shades. The poodle breed also come in a variety of colors. Some Poodles have the coat shades of cream, white, black, chocolate, red, golden or apricot. Nobody, not even the breeder, can surely predict the color result of a developed Golden Retriever Poodle Mix.

Since both purebred parents are people oriented, the Golden Retriver Poodle Mix is a highly easy going personality. This hybrid is eager to please its human owners. Usually, a Goldendoodle that weighs more than 25 pounds inherits more of the Golden Retriever’s traits and temperament. When a stranger approaches, they are more likely to wag their tail than bark. These dogs are considered by many to have the nicest disposition. However, a Golden Retriever Poodle Mix that weighs 20 pounds or lower does not exhibit the same personality. They tend to be more aloof and do not always appreciate small children. But all in all, Goldendoodles loves to swim, exercise and play with the family. The Golden Retriever Poodle Mix is a very sociable breed and leaving it alone for quite a long time can make the dog very bored and depressed. This can make the dog develop a destructive attitude.

There are no major issues with regards to the dog’s health problems because it is a hybrid dog, like what was stated earlier. It is naturally possible for a hybrid to inherit health problems from both parents, but genetic health problems tend to be less common in hybrids than in purebreds. The only problem common in the Golden Retriever Poodle Mix is allergies. They can have sudden allergic reactions to vaccinations while other simply has dry skin. Also, be cautious in buying a topical flea treatment for your Goldendoodle. They can be allergic to that as well and may build up toxins in the blood stream.
