Doberman Resources

The Doberman Pinscher (also spelled Dobermann) was developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, a German tax collector that had to travel through bandit-infested areas. He needed a dog that could protect and guard him during his travels and the result was the Doberman. In many countries, including Germany, the breed is referred to as Dobermann only, never Dobermann Pinscher. Pinscher is the German word for terrier and is strictly speaking no longer appropriate for this guarding dog. The Doberman is an intelligent dog that can be trained to carry out a wide range of tasks. It needs early obedience training and proper socialisation since it is strong and powerful dog that will do anything to protect its family. You can find more information about the Doberman on the websites dedicated to this breed.
