Female Sev? How to go about Pairing?
So, I've decided I'd like to dedicate my 65g to holding a mated pair of Golden Severums and probably nothing else (maybe a syno cat or something).
I have one Golden Severum which is about 5cm long and mostly pale yellow with a little bit of orange on her(?) anal fin. The dorsal fin is quite rounded.

(more pictures in my 65g Journal, see signature link)
At the LFS today they had 2 Golden Severums which were a bit bigger than mine, about 7-8cm. They had pale spots around their faces and gills and also pale stripes. Their dorsal fins were very pointed. Are these differences just age related or were those male and mine a female?
Also, how would I go about adding more severums in an attempt to get a pair? I feel as though my little guy/gal may get picked on as she is so small.Last edited by ameliaaahx; 11-03-2012 at 08:44 AM.

Hi there,
Although yours is still too small but it looks like a female to me and those who have spots on the face are most likely males.

Sorry I couldn't edit my reply.
About adding a male sev, I think there's lower possibility for aggression in a community tank compared to when the sevs are left alone in the first place. So I would add the new bigger male while other fish ( like that little oscar ) are still present in the tank, and monitor for a while how sevs behave, if they got along fine I would remove the other fish then.
Some more-useful advices should be coming from AC fellows.Last edited by Ocellatus; 11-04-2012 at 06:05 PM.

Thank you for your reply! I have just been offered a 10cm super red severum which I am very excited about but I am concerned about putting it with my little 5cm goldie...
