Unhappy I've bred a colony of rapists!

OMG...I went to my LFS tonight with the view to getting a few more shrimp as I've got maturing juveniles and wanted to mix up the gene pool a little. They had some absolutely stunning species available (I'll have to remember that Thursdays are stock delivery days). The blue jelly shrimp really caught my eye so I got a good deal on 10 individuals.

After drip acclimating them for no less than three hours (strict instructions from the LFS owner to do this variety really slowly) I released some quite bewildered blues into the mix.

Immediately a red cherry X rili hybrid juvenile came over to investigate the new additions and proceeded to rape them! Is this normal shrimp breeding behaviour? I was a bit shocked as the blues didn't seem to know what had hit them.

Will I get purple offspring? Probably not.

male shrimp don't care much about all the fuss that some species like humans have to go through to attract a mate.
they find a receptive female, they mate with the female, regardless of any objections from the lady.
what you described sounds like normal shrimp breeding behavior.

This will result in muddy colored, and undesirable shrimp. Different colors should not be mixed.

I'm not selling shrimp and I won't find any muddy coloured ones undesirable! The cherry/rili hybrids look pretty neat.

Actually, when I went to the store I was originally looking for wild looking ones like what talldutchie has - I really like the look of them.

Of course...the magpie in me got the blue ones when I couldn't see any drab (or cheap!) shrimp...but really, I wouldn't be at all displeased if they all turned out brown (although purple shrimp would be great).
