smaller fresh water fish
OK, I have another question. After I take my large gold fish out of the 30 gal. tank can I put other small fresh water fish in the tank with out cycling it? How many and a suggestion of what kind would be appreciated. Thank you

if you haven't taken the goldfish out too long ago the beneficial bacteria
that live in the filter may not yet be dead and you will not have to cycle.
the cycle is a process to accumulate bacteria in our tanks which then process fish waste.
without a continous supply of fish waste they will survive for a couple of hours before dying.
as for small fish suitable for a 30 gallon tank, there are more than can be mentioned.
many tetras, danios, minnows, rainbowfish will work, as will smaller gourami species.
if you want a challenge in terms of water quality upkeep then try dwarf cichlids such as
bolivian rams or kribensis. google is your best friend here...
