I lucked out with my ottos I guess. I bought a dozen, didn't even acclimate them and just throw them in the tank. Over a year ago and they're still truckin' along altho I might have 8 of them left. I still have a bigger one that I've had 3 years.
I don't know what killed the 4-5 that did die, tho.

I've had nothing but bad luck when it comes to otto's, Tried twice to keep them and none survived past two weeks, blamed my high pH 8.2 as the reason.

You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.

well, for whatever reason the 2 remaining ottos are more visible since I cleaned the tank. I moved out some of the rocks just to give it a cleaner look and maybe I disturbed their hidey holes. anyway, both were side by side on the glass this morning looking fit and fine. today marks 11 days. I'm hoping if they make it another 3, I'll be home free.
wish me luck

I've never had luck with them either, so I switched to BN plecs. Cheaper too, and I don't feel bad because they're tank-bred. I know Ottos aren't the only fish that are harvested from the wild for aquariums, but I just feel slightly guilty buying them... Like that fish was just minding it's own business, being a fish, and someone came along and netted it, tossed it in a bag and then on a plane, and then into a tank at some fish store. Poor wee guys.

I hadn't realized when I bought them that they they weren't tank bred. I love BNP's so maybe I'll get another one of them instead of adding to the ottos.
thanks for educating me everyone/

Good decision. I've had much better luck with a plain ole BN pelco.

I hope they make it! My remaining 2 ottos are still going strong. I rarely see the little devils. Spotted them today when I cleaned the tank though so I know they're still alive and swimming
Good luck!
