Hey :) I got this video i posted on youtube to try and find out what sex my new GT is.. Here's the link :

Im not getting any responses there, so I thought I should make a post about it here. The vid isnt very good of her/him but I can make a new one if someone asks...

I removed all the roots and most of the rocks to get the vide, so the tank looks a little messed up..

I talk in the video about them. It just takes some seconds before I start talking.

I would really appreciate it if anyone would help me :))

Really? Thats amazing.. I hope I can pair em up. He's actually already paired up, but he's grown like 6 times bigger than the female.. They stop growing when they lay egg first time, right? So I was hoping i could pair these two. They're pretty much the same size. She's actually bigger.. for now

Is it hard to make a male pair up with another female when he's already paired??

Him and the little one he's paired with is actually born here at home.

I removed the old(little) female from the tank into another tank.. Is this bad/wrong??

You probably could keep two females in with a male, but that depends on how long your tank is. The longer the tank and more hiding spaces, the easier it is to keep the other female.

I wouldn't say breeding causes no growth in females. They will grow slower because energy is being used to create eggs. There are many cases of females who are not bred, and reaching a size of 8-10".

You have a better change of pairing if the male and female has more than 1 choice in a partner.

Well.. She's soo small and havent grown in atleast a year.. But they lay eggs very often... It seems like thats all they do.. But will the male take to the new female when the female he's already paired with is still there?? Wont they stick together against the new female??

I know you can hoax the fish to start spawning if you raise the temperature.. Does this go for pairing too??? Do they pair up cos of heat and spawn also or is it only spawning when they're already a pair???

Putting two full grown Texas Cichlids might now work out well. Perhaps moving things around in the tank might help but I would expect some fighting.

I deleted one of your posts for obvious reasons this is a family forum.

    Sorry about the d-word...

I guess I'll just let the old small one stay a pair with him and give the big girl back to the store..

The male might take the new female if the old female is not ready to spawn and the new one is.
