Quarantine Tank for Tetras ?

I have been adding some new Cardinals and neon tetras to my tank, and have been quarantining them in of course a QT tank. My Question is my last group had a very bright light a 14" t5 over them as this was my light I used to use when my QT tank was my actual tank. That group did fine except for one who died, for my new batch I put the original hood over it, but it seems very dim, in comparison, but the fish are more active. Is the dim light better, or could it be too dim?

Many wild caught fish are more comfy with dim lighting yes as it matches their natural habitats more closely than the blazing lighting we prefer due to aesthetics.

Neons have been tank bred for a long time but Cardinals are often wild caught so they would be likely to behave as described.

I doubt any fish would find a brightly lit tank with no hiding places especially comfortable. A 5 gallon is not very deep so the fish are pretty close to the light source, as well.

+1 to both of the above posts. Your cardinals are more light sensative than most tetras, one publication even states them having a "light phobia".
